People defend TikTok of paramedics dancing in back of ambulance after ‘petty’ backlash

“Probably trying to relax after saving a life!”

We all know the healthcare service has had a tough time of it the past 18 months or so. It doesn’t feel like all that long ago that every Thursday we took to our doorsteps to clap for our carers, and even more recently there was outrage for the measly proposed NHS pay rise.

Yet despite this nation’s renewed appreciation for those in healthcare, some of us seem to have already forgotten just how hard these people work to keep us safe and well, as evidenced by the initial reaction to these paramedics who posted a fun TikTok video together.

Rhianna Higgins and her colleague posted a TikTok of the two dancing together while on a break, and despite the fact the two weren’t on duty, they came in for criticism online for their behaviour.

“And people wonder why it takes three hours for one [ambulance] to turn up,” one person said.

Another said: “Shouldn’t you be saving lives?”

However, after news of the initial negative reaction did the rounds, people have been quick to rally around the pair and offer them words of encouragement.

“Great video, it clearly states they were on a break. Probably trying to relax after saving a life!” one wrote.

Another wrote: “Nice to see you having a well deserved break, thanks for everything you do.”

Even Piers Morgan didn’t see anything wrong with the two having a bit of fun in their down time, writing:

The controversial figure told his eight million followers: “If you’re genuinely ‘furious’ that overworked, underpaid paramedics are having a few minutes of fun in between saving lives…. You’re an imbecile.”
