Nigel Farage tricked into saying “Up the Ra” in video birthday greeting

“I hope you enjoy a few pints with the lads tonight. Up the Ra!”

Nigel Farage has said he was hoaxed into saying “Up the Ra” in a video birthday greeting which has gone viral.

The former head of the UK Independence Party and current GB News host joined Cameo earlier in this year, a video-sharing platform where celebrities send personalised video messages to fans.

For €87 on Cameo, people can buy a message from Farage for themselves or a friend.

A recent Cameo clip sees the leading Brexiteer sign-off with the Republican slogan in a paid-for birthday message sent to an Irish man, after being requested by the man’s friend.

“I hope you have a great birthday… Now, it’s a bit early in the day so all I’ve got actually is coffee but I hope you enjoy a few pints with the lads tonight. Up the Ra!” Farage says in the greeting before taking a sip of his coffee.

Because of the video, the phrase “Up the Ra” is now trending on Twitter.

Regarding the clip, Farage told the MailOnline: “If I saw ‘Up the Ra’ I would have looked at that as something very innocent and wouldn’t have even known there was an implication to it.

“A lot of messages that I get are friends sending each other messages with their own little jokes or their own little words which I have to judge and of course I reject some if they are crude or offensive.”

On whether he would accept a message request that was supportive of the IRA, he responded: “Are you joking? I had a face-to-face death threat from them.”
