'I’m just evolving, and we’re all allowed to evolve'
A former porn star has called for Elon Musk to ban x-rated content from Twitter following his takeover of the social media giant.
Lisa Ann, a member of the Urban X Hall of Fame, stepped away from the adult entertainment industry in 2014 and now works in podcasting alongside uploading old content to OnlyFans. Talking on her Dudes Do Better podcast, the 49-year-old called for a Twitter-wide ban of pornography alongside age restrictions to protect kids.
"Yes, I did porn for many years of my life, and I’m not hiding my past as people tell me every day on social media when I’m wearing clothes," she said. "I’m just evolving, and we’re all allowed to evolve. So my disdain for porn on social media has nothing to do with porn, other than the fact that you are sharing it on platforms that have no age gate."
Ann continued to brand Twitter the "largest distributor of illegal content to minors in the world", which she hopes Musk, 50, will put a stop to.
"I really hope Elon Musk takes a step ahead and says, ‘we’re not doing this anymore’, and if we are, you’ll have to enter in your birthday, there will be an ID situation, there will be levels to this s***, that’s what I’m hoping for," she added.
A blanket ban on porn could be detrimental to Twitter, which is one of the last social networks to allow such material since Tumblr banned it in 2018. As a result, Tumblr's traffic fell 29 per cent, which equates to around 150 million users jumping ship.
While Musk has not publicly revealed his plans for the social networking site, besides banning bots, that is, the protection of minors is undoubtedly an issue that needs to be addressed.
