Crews described himself as a “toxic male”
Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews has admitted that he has previously had a porn addiction and struggled with infidelity.
In a candid and revealing interview with Extra, Crews opened up about his marriage with fellow actor Rebecca King. The pair are launching a new Audible book, called Stronger Together.
In the interview the couple admitted that they have had their ups and downs throughout their relationship, with Crews, 52, saying that he has struggled with infidelity and porn. The actor said: “You gotta understand, the marriage was dead.”
King, 55, added that she’d had her suspicions, saying: “There’s some dirt in this rathole… And I had this kind of sick feeling in my stomach and this nervous feeling. And I’m like, ‘Something is fishy.'”
Crews went on to say that he doesn’t think he would have survived “without Rebecca’s courage to stand up to me and say, ‘That’s it.'” He explained that his wife “basically pulled the plug on our marriage.”
Then one day, Crews admitted everything, in what the couple now refer to as ‘D-day.’ Crews explains: “I just went and told her everything. I told her I was unfaithful 10 years earlier. I told her about my addiction to pornography.”
He added: “I would like to describe myself as a toxic male.”
The two of them now say that their relationship has “healed.” They have been married for 32 years and have had five children together.
“Now we don’t have to blow up before we glow up,” King said.
Crews said: “See, this is the thing – and I truly believe this – when you do the right thing, the universe will bless you… Us being stronger together was the best decision for us.”
The two recommend forgiveness and therapy for any couples out there who may be facing similar challenges, but admit that when they were putting together their new memoir they did feel vulnerable.
However King said: “I like to say, ‘You don’t tell the testimony till you’re through the test. And every so often when the emotion might get a little deep we just hugged each other. And I’ll say to him again… I’ll say, ‘I forgive you, Terry‘.”
Crews recently began filming again for the final season of the hugely successful comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, after the show was hit by delays due to the pandemic.
