'Rocky' legend Burt Young dies at 83

Young appeared in all six of the original Rocky films

Burt Young has died at the age of 83.

The actor was best known for his role in the Rocky film’s as the titular boxer’s brother-in-law and best friend Paulie.

The news of his passing was confirmed by Young’s daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, to the New York Times.

She said her father passed away in Los Angeles on October 8. No cause of death was given.

Along with his Rocky role, Young also appeared in films such as Chinatown, Convoy, Back to School, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Once Upon a Time in America, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Downtown: A Street Tale, and Amityville II: The Possession.

But it was his role as Paulie that he was achieved acclaim for, with his performance in the first Rocky film earning him a nomination at the Oscars for best supporting actor.

His co-star Sylvester Stallone paid tribute to Young in a touching post on Instagram.

The actor wrote: “To my dear friend Burt Young, you were an incredible man and artist, I and the world will miss you very much.”

After appearing in ‘Rocky’ as the brother of Adrian, Rocky’s love interest who he married in the second film, Young went on to appear in all six of the original Rocky sequels.
