A man has died in Liverpool after he crashed during an "attempted police stop", Merseyside Police has confirmed.
Yesterday, a 23-year-old man riding a bike crashed with a stationary police van following attempts by police to stop him.
Merseyside Police said it followed officers' attempt "to stop him and carry out inquiries".
Officers administered first aid and CPR at the scene and the man was taken to hospital where he died soon after.
The incident happened on Back Falkner Street South at 15:15 GMT Yesterday (Friday 13 Feb).
Following the incident, Merseyside Police said it was cooperating "fully with an independent investigation" by the Independent Office for Police Conduct watchdog (IOPC).
It urged people not to speculate about the circumstances of the incident.
Now, the force has issued a statement confirming the death of the man.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that a man involved in an incident on Back Falkner Street South in Liverpool yesterday, Friday 13 February, has sadly died.
"At 3.15pm it was reported that a 23 year old man had come off his electrically assisted pedal cycle on Back Falkner Street South in Liverpool following an attempt by officers, who were participating in a proactive police operation, to stop him and conduct enquiries.
"The man fell from his bike after making contact with a stationary police van at the time of the collision.
"First aid and CPR was administered by officers at the scene. An ambulance was called and arrived at 3.23pm and the man was taken to hospital where he died a short time later. A post-mortem will be carried out to confirm the cause of death. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family.
"We would continue to urge people not to speculate and avoid sharing rumours or misinformation. We are co-operating fully with an independent investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)."
