A Luton Town fan has spotted one key detail about their referee appointment for their Premier League game against Wolves on Saturday.

The Hatters are well and truly in a relegation scrap and will look to come back from a heavy 5-1 defeat at home to Brentford last weekend.

Rob Edwards’ men are 18th in the table, a point behind Nottingham Forest, who remain within touching distance after also losing on Sunday.

Both Luton and Forest have been in the news for controversial reasons after the latter claimed that VAR official Stuart Attwell, who was on duty for their loss to Everton, is a Luton fan as the East Midlanders had three penalty shouts turned down.

Forest are currently being investigated by the Football Association for their comments while the Reds have confirmed that they have have contacted the PGMOL and asked them to release the audio of the conversation between VAR for each of the incidents.

Luton fan spots key detail

Ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, one Luton fan checked to see who would be reffing their game at Molineux when he happened to spot a key detail.

“Not joking, this is our ref on Saturday,” he wrote before adding a laughing-faced emoji.

In charge of their game is David Coote. Born in Nottingham, Coote isn’t allowed to officiate games involving Nottingham Forest but underneath it stated that he was a Notts County fan, sparking plenty of debate.

“I’m sure NF will not be happy that a County fan is reffing our game…” the fan added.

Another said: “Brilliant shithousery from the PGMOL.

“The Premier League want Forest down as much as everyone else does,” wrote a third.

“We are staying up!” commented a jubilant Luton fan.

Forest fans meanwhile demanded that a change be made.

“Change the ref @FA_PGMOL,” said many of the fans.

A win for Luton would take them out of the relegation zone as Forest don’t play until a day later, when they host Manchester City at the City Ground.
