Lancashire tremor felt miles away from its epicentre

The tremor was recorded near Silverdale at a depth of around 3km, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS). Reports quickly came in from people who said they felt the ground move, with one resident comparing the noise to “a lorry crashing into the house”.

Others described hearing two loud bangs followed by several seconds of shaking. One person said it felt “like a really strong explosion” and claimed the force rattled their doors and windows.

Residents in Warton were among those who reported feeling the earthquake. As reported by Lancashire Live, one person on Coach Road said their “entire house shook”, while another said they initially thought a truck had crashed into their home.

The tremor was also felt further away, including in Morecambe and Milnthorpe.

The latest earthquake is the second significant tremor to hit Lancashire within a year. A 3.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded in December, while several smaller tremors have also been reported in the area since then.
