He was sentenced today
A former Man United and Ipswich Town star has been sentenced for dangerous driving after being involved in a 99mph car crash.
Brandon Williams has been sentenced today at a Chester Court after being charged with dangerous driving.
The former United left-back was handed a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years and has been disqualified from driving for three years.
Recorder Eric Lamb told Williams that he had ‘strong personal mitigation’ after committing the offence at a time of depression.
However, he was equally told that he had been “stupid” while earning “too much too soon” following his breakthrough into Man United’s first team.
In court, he admitted he was driving at high speed to show off to a female passenger.
The 24-year-old admitted to the charge of dangerous driving in March after he was caught driving at 99mph in his Audi A3 before then crashing.
Williams is alleged to have hit a Ford Fiesta and subsequently deflected into the central reservation on the A34 in August 2023.
He did not comment when he was questioned about witnesses allegedly seeing a balloon in his mouth while driving.
The full-back was given a breathalyser test at the scene with the result coming back negative.
He was arrested for dangerous driving and not having third party insurance.
CPS senior crown prosecutor, Andrew Madden, said: “Brandon Williams’ driving on that day clearly fell far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver.
“Witnesses said Williams kept speeding up and then breaking sharply. It was clear he wasn’t in control of the vehicle.
“The driving was erratic and the speed was grossly excessive. Eventually, Williams lost control completely and crashed. It is a fortunate no one was seriously injured or killed.”
Williams played 51 times for Man United, 29 times for Norwich and 17 times for Ipswich.
He spent last season without a club and is still a free agent.
