Richarlison’s second attempt to leave Spurs has now stalled

Richarlison may now have no option but to remain at Tottenham after a second potential transfer fell through in the space of a few days.

The 29-year-old had been hoping to return to Brazil with Vasco da Gama, but negotiations have stalled over his personal terms.

Tottenham are understood to have agreed a fee with the club, although there may not be enough time to resolve the remaining issues before the Brazilian transfer window closes on Friday night.

His situation follows the collapse of a proposed return to Everton. Spurs had agreed a deal worth around £35m with the Premier League club on deadline day, but that transfer also broke down over personal terms.

Richarlison has since been left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad.

BBC Sport says he is also in disagreement with the club over the final nine months of his current contract. He reportedly wants to leave before it expires next summer, while Tottenham have the option to extend his deal by another year.

De Zerbi has made one thing clear about Richarlison

He joined Spurs from Everton for £60m in 2022 and scored 11 Premier League goals last season, making him their top scorer as they avoided relegation.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi said he had tried to persuade Richarlison to stay but insisted the decision to leave him out was not his.

“Richarlison is a good guy, a very good guy. I spoke with him a lot of times and I spent time trying to convince him to stay, but if you ask me, I know the truth,” he said.

“If I had decided myself to leave him outside of the squad, I would have regrets, but the decision has not even been taken by the club.”
