Fans of legal cannabis and prostitution rejoice, Eurostar is launching a fast route from London to Amsterdam and prices start at £35.

Launching April 4, the journey will take three hours and 41 minutes. The trip departing the British capital will be direct but, at least initially, the return leg will involve a stop in Brussels to allow passport checks to take place. This will change once the British and Dutch governments reach an agreement for documentation checks to take place in the Netherlands.

Eurostar will be running two services a day from St Pancras International, departing at 08:31 and 17:31 respectively, with one-way fares starting at £35. On the weekend there will be a train at 8.31am Saturday and 5.31pm on Sunday.

The rail company also says the new service will cut the journey time between London and Brussels by 17 minutes to one hour and 48 minutes, and will then continue to Rotterdam.

“The launch of the London to Amsterdam service marks a historic milestone in the expansion of international high-speed rail travel, revolutionising the connection between these important destinations,” the company said.

It says more than four million passengers travel between London and Amsterdam by air each year. Therefore the market is the same size as it was when the London-Paris train launched in 1994 and points out that, since then, the market for travel between London and Paris has more than doubled.
