Drunk EasyJet passenger tries to storm cockpit at 30,000ft claiming he ‘can do better’

The plane was forced to make an emergency landing

A reportedly drunk plane passenger caused chaos on an EasyJet flight after he tried to storm the cockpit mid-flight.

The incident took place on a flight to Kos International Airport in Greece, which took off from London Gatwick just after 3:30pm on Tuesday (September 3).

The Airbus A320 encountered turbulence during the scheduled 4-hour flight, and this prompted one passenger – who was apparently drunk on whiskey – to start disrupting others.

The man in question shouted that the captain was “rubbish” before trying to make his way into the cockpit.

Video footage shared on TikTok shows staff wrestling him to the ground.

According to the Sun, the allegedly drunk passenger broke the plane’s intercom system, while also at one point attempting to open an exit door while some 30,000ft in the air.

A source told the publication: “The cabin crew were great and very brave but the whole drama was very upsetting.”

The man’s actions forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Munich an hour and 44 mins into the journey.

German police then boarded the plane and removed the man from the flight.

The other passengers had to disembark the plane and received hotel and meal accommodations overnight before the flight departed Munich to Greece the following afternoon.

EasyJet said in a statement: “Safety is easyJet’s highest priority and our cabin crew are trained to assess and act quickly and appropriately in all situations to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“While such incidents are rare, we do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour.

“While this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused,” the airline added.

The incident comes after Michael O’Leary, the chief executive of Ryanair, called for alcohol limits to be imposed in airports to tackle a rise in disorder on flights.

He told The Daily Telegraph violent outbursts are occurring weekly with alcohol, especially when mixed with other substances.

However, the suggestion has been criticised by Wetherspoons owner Sir Tim Martin.
