London’s Bank Underground station was closed at around 7.20pm on Wednesday evening due to a fire alert.

According to officials, a “train was alight”.

Around an hour later, the station was re-opened, with services “stopping normally,” according to Transport for London.

Passengers smelled smoke in the station before it was evacuated, according to several reports.

TfL tweeted: “Bank/Monument: The station is currently closed.

“This is while we investigate a fire alert.”

Thousands of Londoners faced delays to their commute as the police and fire services attended the scene.
