Alex Scott hits back

Every now and again a forgotten fossil rears its head to comment on something not with a 2021 mindset, but from the good old days of intolerance, classism, and bigotry.

Today’s fossil is Lord Digby Jones, who attempted to ridicule sports presenter Alex Scott, who is part of the BBC’s Olympic presenting team, for the way she talks. But now, the pundit has bit back, and boy is it sweet.

“Enough! I can’t stand it anymore! Alex Scott spoils a good presentational job on the BBC Olympics Team with her very noticeable inability to pronounce her ‘g’s at the end of a word,” he tweeted.

“Competitors are NOT taking part, Alex, in the fencin, rowin, boxin, kayakin, weightliftin & swimmin.

He also then tweeted: “English Language…..Help!

In swift and sweet Justice, Scott quote tweeted the dinosaur:

“I’m from a working class family in East London, Poplar, Tower Hamlets & I am PROUD

“Proud of the young girl who overcame obstacles, and proud of my accent! It’s me, it’s my journey, my grit.

“A quick one to any young kids who may not have a certain kind of privilege in life. Never allow judgments on your class, accent, or appearance hold you back. Use your history to write your story. Keep striving, keep shining & don’t change for anyone.”

“Tweets like this just give me the energy to keep going

“See you tomorrow.. live on BBC baby,” she concluded.

“Check out this unt….sorry I have trouble with my C’s,” tweeted one person.

“I thought you were a proud Brummie? We invented dropping the ‘g’.

“‘Bostin!’ If you can’t embrace diversity of voice may I suggest you’re the wrong Lord for the wrong city – youngest, most diverse in Europe. @AlexScott is a fantastic broadcaster who doesn’t need coaching from you,” tweeted GMB’s Adil Ray.
