Airport worker dies after being sucked into jet engine

The worker's identity has not been publicly released

The worker's death occurred around 10.25pm at San Antonio's international airport.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a statement that as a Delta Air Lines jet was taxiing to an arrival gate, the worker was ingested into the one engine on the aircraft which was on.

The worker's employer, Unifi Aviation, said it was "deeply saddened" by the "tragic accident."

The company said its investigation had concluded the death was “unrelated to Unifi’s operational processes, safety procedures and policies.”

In a statement to KENS5, Unifi said: "Unifi Aviation is deeply saddened by the loss of our employee at San Antonio International Airport during a tragic incident in the late hours of Friday, June 23, 2023.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased, and we remain focused on supporting our employees on the ground and ensuring they are being taken care of during this time."

They added that no more additional information will be shared at this time, out of respect for the deceased.

The NTSB are investigating the incident.

In its own statement, Delta Air Lines said they were "heartbroken and grieving the loss" of the ground crew member.

They said: "We are deeply saddened by this incident and are working with authorities as they begin their investigation. We will share more information as details become available."
