Africa by Toto is shockingly absent

In terms of arbitrary and random lists, defining what makes a great song is an impossible task. Each to their own but any list on the greatest songs of all time will always have one clear winner, Africa by Toto.

Luckily for every single artist in the world, Toto’s 1982 belter didn’t fit the criterion for Rolling Stone’s piece on the greatest songs of the 21st century.

This being said, the famous music journal weren’t to be thwarted in their bid to find the greatest tunes of the last 18 years. In order to do so, they polled artists, critics and industry insiders to create a list of the era’s truly essential tracks.

In terms of Irish representation, U2’s track Beautiful Day made it in at number 40 in an extremely eclectic list that you can see here.

As for the top 20, we’re delighted to see LCD Soundsystem’s All My Friends make the grade – truthfully, we’ve already argued that it’s the song of the century but hey, Beyonce runs the world.
