We are in the midst of a 'sexual recession'

One in four Britons cannot remember the last time they had sex, according to a new study.

The research, which involved 2,000 Brits and was carried out by MysteryVibe, explores the sexual rut in which Britain has found itself since the start of the pandemic last year.

According to the study, the main source of Britain's 'sexual recession' is quite simply the events that we have just experienced. The pandemic, combined with dire news about Brexit and whatever other new nightmare headlines we receive notifications about, has led to people's libidos plummeting.

Its findings showed that 40 percent of Brits attributed the reduction in their sexual activity to a decreased libido, while a quarter of those spoken to said that pandemic anxiety had led to them having less sex.

Women's sex lives were worst affected, the research showed, with 40 percent saying they had less sex in 2020 than in 2019. A third of the women who said they had less sex have expressed worry at the toll it is having on their mental health.

"It’s clear that the British public is suffering from a sexual recession. Whether it’s fears about performance, a lack of sex drive or external life pressures, the UK is in a sexual rut," said MysteryVibe's Dr. Soum Rakshit.

"As attitudes towards sex continue to evolve, we can’t just watch from the sidelines. We all have a responsibility to open up the national conversation about sex, pleasure and health and get people enjoying themselves again."
