Can you tell if the Union Jack is being flown upside down?

The majority of Brits can't tell which way is correct.

Rich Cooper

According to a YouGov survey, the majority of Brits can’t tell if the Union Jack is being flown upside down.

A recent survey found that, when given two Union Jacks to choose from, one being flown correctly and the other upside down, 55% of Brits either guessed incorrectly (33%) or didn’t know which was upside down (22%).

So let’s have a test: can you tell which Union Jack is correct?

Is it A?

Or is it B?

Which do you reckon it is?

We’ll tell you which it is, after a selection of random GIFs to stop you seeing the answer straight away.

Yes, random indeed.

The answer is A. If you’re not sure what the difference is, this is YouGov’s explanation: “When the flag is being flown correctly the fat white bar in the top corner closest to the flagpole should be along the top edge of the flag, not the flagpole edge.”

This bit here.

So there you go. Next time you see a Union Jack flying upside down, you can phone The Queen and get them done for treason.
