Pre-orders are coming soon

The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially arrived and gamers got nearly everything they wanted out of the next-generation handheld console.

The new console will be released on 5 June and pre orders are now open at Amazon, Currys, and other retailers in the UK.

Fans were thrilled to see the new console has magnetic Joycon controllers that can be used as mouse controls, 4K support for TV streaming, a new voice and video chat feature with screen sharing to play with friends, and a host of exciting new games from the Zelda, Kirkby, Hollow Knight and Mario franchises.

Viewers of an hour-long introductory live stream by the gaming brand were even introduced to the first major game to be available at launch in the shape of Mario Kart World. The open world racing game allows you to race off-track and even travel between races in a stunning open world.

It has introduced rail grinding and new upgrades to the best-selling racing series and will be one of the most popular games on sale when the Nintendo Switch 2 arrives.

There is just one problem with the new Nintendo Switch 2. The price starts at £395, which is more than the more powerful PS5 console.

While the price of the console itself may not put many people off as they value the convenience of the handheld Switch 2, the price of games has shocked some fans.

Mario Kart World will cost £67 for a digital download and £75 for a physical copy of the game, making Switch 2 games some of the most expensive games ever sold in the console gaming era.

Nintendo rarely discounts its major games such as Zelda or Mario and it means shoppers who want to have a library of games for the new console will have to spend thousands of pounds to get the games and it will cost even more if they want physical copies.

The more expensive Steamdeck handheld console may even be a more affordable option as games on the console can be bought on Steam or even CDKeys, where PC games are regularly massively discounted. Older games can drop to pennies on the platform, offering more of a variety of cheap options for gamers despite the more expensive cost of the hardware.
