A must-see Jurgen Klopp documentary on Channel 4 this evening

The definitive telling of Klopp’s story so far

After three decades, Liverpool are finally champions of England again. But you probably knew that already.

And so, Channel 4 are marking the occasion with a documentary dedicated to the man who guided them to the title, the one and only Jurgen Klopp.

Jürgen Klopp: Germany’s Greatest Export will air at 10pm on Monday evening, and looks like essential viewing for not just the Liverpool faithful, but all football fans.

The film will “follow the story of both Liverpool FC and Jürgen Klopp from 1990 to the point where their paths crossed and footballing history was made,” and features contributions from legends such as former captain Steven Gerrard, Sir Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes, and Steve McManaman, and well as former Germany international Jürgen Klinsmann.

“When he was appointed everyone was really excited,” says Dalglish in quotes released by Channel 4 ahead of it airing. “He nailed himself to the people when he said ‘I’m the normal one’ because that’s what the Liverpool people are, they just want people to be normal, very good at their job but they don’t need it slammed in their face every two minutes.

“It’s important that the club has a feelgood factor, Jürgen certainly brought that in and that’s the way it used to be at Liverpool. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that that was when it was successful as well.”

“He took a team, without spending huge amounts of money and he’s putting them alongside the Barcelonas, the Real Madrids, the AC Milans, all the teams that had been doing well in Europe,” adds Steven Gerrard, speaking about Klopp’s time managing in the Bundesliga  “Jürgen Klopp took Borussia Dortmund there. He’d even knocked Bayern Munich off their perch.”
