Subway has finally brought ranch sauce to the UK after weeks of online demand fuelled by the viral obsession surrounding the condiment.
The sandwich chain has added a new Buttermilk Ranch sauce to menus across the UK, following a surge in interest sparked by fans discovering ranch at recent football matches in the US.
According to Subway, UK search interest in ranch has jumped by 20 per cent over the past month, while social media has been flooded with people desperate to get their hands on the American favourite. The craze even prompted the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to remind travellers that bottles of ranch must comply with airport liquid restrictions after fans joked about bringing it back in their hand luggage.
One person wrote on X: "Why did no one tell me about ranch sauce?", while another asked: "Who's going to start the ranch pipeline to Europe?"
As well as introducing the new dipping sauce, Subway has launched a new Chicken Nacho Ranch sub, made with rotisserie-style chicken, Doritos, mozzarella, cheddar and the new Buttermilk Ranch sauce.
To mark the launch, Subway sent a cowboy known as the "Ranch Ranger" riding through the streets of south London on horseback delivering sandwiches to surprised members of the public.
Show jumper Fabian Williams took on the role, sporting a custom cowboy outfit complete with double holsters filled with bottles of ranch sauce, in a stunt designed to celebrate the condiment's arrival on UK menus.
Kirstey Elston, EMEA Senior Marketing Director at Subway, said: "Ranch has taken the UK by storm over the past few weeks, with fans going to increasingly creative lengths to get their hands on it – including smuggling bottles home in their carry-on.
"So, we decided there was only one way to announce its arrival at Subway – enter our very own Ranch Ranger, saddling up in full cowboy attire and riding in to save the day (and everyone's carry-on allowance) by bringing the ranch straight to them."
Cathy Goodwin, Director of Culinary & Innovation at Subway EMEA, added: "Ranch has been having a real moment – and it's a flavour people have been actively seeking out. From social feeds, to supermarkets, and now to our menu, we're excited to introduce Buttermilk Ranch to our sauce line-up this summer."
