Subway has just launched Gravy Mayo and we genuinely don’t know what to think

It's either the greatest invention in sandwich history or a crime against condiments.

Garlic bread? Garlic? And bread?

It's the sort of culinary revelation that would have Peter Kay pacing around a stage in disbelief.

But forget garlic bread for a second, because Subway has just announced something that might be even more divisive.

Gravy. Mayo.

Yep. Gravy. And mayo.

Two things that, until now, have largely managed to exist perfectly happily without being introduced to one another.

But apparently someone at Subway HQ looked at a pot of mayonnaise, looked at a jug of gravy and thought: "You know what? These two need to get together."

And here we are.

The sandwich chain has unveiled its new Christmas menu for 2026, and while there's plenty of festive goodness on offer, it's the arrival of this frankly outrageous new condiment that's caught our attention.

The Gravy Mayo is described as a creamy, gravy-flavoured mayonnaise, and comes as part of Subway's new Ultimate Festive Sub.

And because simply putting gravy-flavoured mayonnaise on a sandwich wasn't enough, they're also selling it in a separate Dunk Pot.

That's right. You can now dunk your sandwich directly into gravy mayo.

What a time to be alive.

To be fair, the sandwich itself sounds like a pretty solid Christmas dinner squeezed between two slices of bread.

It's packed with rotisserie-style chicken, streaky bacon, sage and onion stuffing, American-style cheese and cranberry sauce, all served on a new sage and onion stuffing-topped loaf.

Then, of course, comes the Gravy Mayo.

And if bread isn't your thing, you can get the festive creation as a jacket potato, wrap or salad instead.

Subway is also launching two new cookies, including a Chocolate Hazelnut Cookie and a melt-in-the-middle Chocolate Filled Cookie, for anyone who somehow still has room afterwards.

Cathy Goodwin, Director of Culinary & Innovation at Subway EMEA, said: "Everyone has a strong opinion on what belongs in an iconic Christmas sandwich, and at Subway we think the best festive sarnie is the one where you get your own way."

She added that customers can drizzle the new Gravy Mayo over their sub or dunk the whole thing straight into it.

Look, we're not saying it won't work.

Gravy? Lovely.

Mayo? Also lovely.

But gravy mayo?

It's either a stroke of absolute genius or the sort of thing that should never have been allowed out of the food laboratory.

Perhaps in a few years we'll look back and wonder how we ever ate a Christmas sandwich without it.

Or perhaps it'll join the long list of food inventions that sounded better in a meeting.

Either way, the British public will soon get to decide.

Subway's festive menu launches in restaurants across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, November 4, and will be available until January 5, 2027.

So, what do we reckon?
