Not every Nando’s is getting five stars

Think every Nando’s is going to deliver the same reliable combination of chicken, PERi-PERi and chips? Well, according to thousands of Google reviewers, that is very much not guaranteed.

SEO Backlinks pulled Google Maps data for Nando’s restaurants across the UK on 5 October 2026, looking at branches that were open and had at least 300 Google reviews.

That left 435 restaurants and a rather enormous pile of 585,275 reviews to work through.

With that in mind, here are the 10 branches that received the lowest average Google ratings.

10. Nando's Northcote Road, Clapham

Starting us off is the Northcote Road branch in Clapham, which managed 3.92 stars from 1,154 reviews.

A sizable chunk of the criticism was aimed at the staff, with customers complaining about both their attitude and their apparent inability to get orders right.

One particularly frustrated diner wrote: “How hard is it to get the orders right? This is not the first time. Nando's Clapham branch! Seriously need people who can count and can read working there!”

The food was not exactly winning everyone over either. Some reviewers described their meals as cold or dry, while others complained about the cleanliness of the restaurant, including tables allegedly being left uncleared and dishes not being washed properly.

One customer was so unimpressed that they advised fellow diners: “Avoid at all cost. Go to Burger King or McDonalds instead." Ouch!

9. Nando's Tooting, London

Tooting came in ninth, with 3.90 stars from a much larger 1,737 reviews.

There is actually plenty of love for the staff here. Customers described them as welcoming, attentive and helpful, so this one is not quite as straightforward as some of the branches further down the list.

The main problem appears to be staffing levels. Reviews complained that the restaurant was understaffed, which then led to long waits and food arriving late or cold.

Cleanliness also appeared to be an issue, as a user complained about ants on their table, which the staff apparently "didn't seem concerned".

And if you are willing to brave all this, you might as well make the meal work for you.

8. Nando's Braehead Shopping Centre, Braehead

Over in Braehead, the Shopping Centre branch received 3.89 stars from 710 reviews.

This time, service was the main culprit. Some diners felt rushed, while others claimed staff were dismissive when they tried to complain.

One reviewer said they ordered a butterfly chicken burger and then watched it sit waiting for 15 minutes while staff chatted at the till.

“They were giggling and laughing and their service was really poor,” they wrote.

Cleanliness was another recurring gripe, with complaints about sticky tables and crumbs being left on seats.

7. Nando's XSITE, Braehead

The nearby XSITE branch fared even worse, recording 3.85 stars from 360 reviews.

Long waits were the big issue here, with one customer claiming there were 16 empty tables inside while people waiting outside were being warned they could face a wait of more than an hour.

“Even though they had 16 free tables inside, the front of the house was telling everyone in the queue it was over an hour's wait,” the reviewer wrote.

Other diners raised similar complaints about delays, while staff were also criticised for their attitude.

6. Nando's Walkden, Greater Manchester

Walkden lands at number six after collecting 3.84 stars from 367 reviews. Once again, waiting around seems to have been a major source of frustration.

One reviewer claimed their food was left sitting on the serving counter while staff chatted, forcing them to ask twice for their order despite there being only four or five tables to serve.

“Been here 3 times but it never gets any better,” they wrote.

The food did not escape criticism either, with some customers saying the quality was inconsistent.

But at least the chicken is not the only thing you can judge harshly. If you have ever found yourself staring at the Nando’s menu wondering which side actually deserves your precious plate space, our ranking of Nando’s side dishes should settle the argument.

5. Nando's Cheshunt Retail Park, Cheshunt

Things get particularly grim at Cheshunt Retail Park, which sits fifth with 3.84 stars from 845 reviews.

Some diners questioned the cleanliness of the restaurant, while food and service complaints also featured heavily.

Customers reported receiving meals that were cold, improperly cooked or simply not what they had ordered.

One reviewer described waiting more than 45 minutes for their main, only to discover that it was undercooked when it eventually arrived.

After raising the problem with a waitress, they claimed they waited another 15 minutes and repeatedly had to ask for an update.

“The rest of my meal was cold and the main was missing due to being undercooked the first time,” they wrote.

At this point, you might be wondering whether there is some secret Nando’s VIP treatment that could make the whole experience a little less painful.

There is, allegedly, a mysterious answer to that question. Our guide to Nando’s Black Cards explains what they actually are, which famous names are rumoured to have one and, most importantly, how anyone could possibly get their hands on one.

4. Nando's Star City, Birmingham

Star City in Birmingham takes fourth place, with 3.83 stars from an impressive 1,893 reviews.

Some customers were not holding back, with reviews describing it as the “worst branch to go to” and “by far the worst Nando’s I’ve had.”

Long waits were one of the biggest complaints. Diners said they had paid for meals that arrived cold or undercooked and did not feel worth the money.

One 2023 reviewer claimed they waited 45 minutes for a single burger despite the restaurant being 80 per cent empty.

“I waited 45 minutes for a single burger while the room was 80% empty and the ingredients clearly already made. Also I had to go and find the cutlery myself. It was not even good,” they wrote.

And the complaints have not exactly disappeared. An August 2026 review blamed a lack of staff for long waits, despite the customer visiting outside peak hours.

3. Nando's Rochdale Riverside, Rochdale

Rochdale Riverside makes the top three with 3.80 stars from 319 reviews.

Staff behaviour was again a major theme, with customers claiming complaints were ignored and mistakes were not properly sorted out.

The portions also came under fire, while waiting times and food quality added to the frustration. One customer went as far as describing their meal as “inedible”.

Another reviewer wrote: “Absolutely shocking experience. The worst meal I have ever had. I would give this place zero stars if it was possible.”

2. Nando's Silverburn, Glasgow

Silverburn in Glasgow narrowly avoids the wooden spoon, taking second place with 3.79 stars from 519 reviews.

Once again, the staff and service seem to be where things went wrong for many diners.

One customer claimed they were told there was a wait despite the restaurant appearing to be around half empty.

Other reviews complained about having to wait to be seated, then wait to order, then wait again for the actual food. By the time the meal arrived, the food itself became another source of criticism.

So, if patience is not your strong suit, perhaps bring a book. Or just reconsider the entire trip.

1. Nando's Pioneer Place, Burnley

And finally, Pioneer Place in Burnley scored just 3.57 stars from 319 reviews, putting it comfortably at the bottom of this particular ranking.

Food was the biggest complaint, with diners reporting cold, undercooked and flavourless meals. Some also felt the quality did not match what they were paying.

One Google reviewer wrote: “Chicken cold, hardly any salad. Starter never came. Never seen a nandos like this in my life. Absolutely shocking.”

Cleanliness was another concern, with some reviewers saying the apparent lack of hygiene made them uncomfortable.

But before you swear off chicken forever, remember that this is a ranking of the lowest-rated branches, not a verdict on Nando’s as a whole.

There are plenty of restaurants sitting at the other end of the scale.

In fact, if reading all that has made you desperate to find somewhere that actually knows what it is doing, you can check out the UK’s best-loved Nando’s and see which branch has managed to win over the most diners.
