McVitie’s has issued an urgent clarification after biscuit fans were left baffled by some rather unexpected new names appearing on packs of Digestives and Hobnobs.
Shoppers have been taking to social media after spotting packs labelled ‘Together’, ‘Giggling’ and ‘Buzzing’ – leading some to wonder whether three of Britain’s best-known biscuits had quietly been rebranded.
One confused shopper simply asked: “When did the name Hobnobs disappear?”, while another said they and their boyfriend were “going crazy” after bringing home a pack of Hobnobs only to realise it said ‘Buzzing’ on the front.
@konnieleighhh Are we being stupid? Have they rebranded? There are literally no pictures online 😀 #hobnobs #mcvities #whatisgoingon #fyp ♬ oh yeah? - Steve Lacy
But McVitie’s has now cleared things up. Milk Chocolate Digestives have temporarily become ‘Together’, Original Digestives are ‘Giggling’, and Milk Chocolate Hobnobs are ‘Buzzing’, with the limited-edition packs appearing in shops until the end of October.
The packs are part of McVitie’s new ‘There’s Only One That Brings Us Together’ campaign, celebrating the everyday moments and rituals that bring people together over a biscuit.
A McVitie’s spokesperson said: “We can confirm nobody’s going mad – Digestives are still Digestives and Hobnobs are still Hobnobs. We've loved seeing people's reactions to the packs and the theories about what might have happened to some of the nation's favourite biscuits. The new names are only here for a limited time as part of our new 'There's Only One That Brings Us Together' campaign, celebrating the role our biscuits play in the little moments that bring people together.
"Whether it's catching up with friends, putting the kettle on for family, or taking a well-earned tea break with colleagues, McVitie's has always been part of those little moments that bring people together. We wanted to capture that spirit in a playful way."
The limited-edition packs are available now in major retailers nationwide until the end of October, while stocks last.
