Conor McGregor’s Irish stout set to hit UK supermarket shelves this week

The UFC man has already fired shots at Guinness

Conor McGregor’s Irish stout is set to be rolled out across 400 Asda supermarkets this week, it has been announced.

Forged Irish Stout was first brewed in late 2020 and until now, has been available exclusively in McGregor’s The Black Forge Inn near his childhood home in Crumlin, Dublin.

But a new exclusive stocking deal with Asda means the British public will now be able to buy the brew in Nitro four-can packs in shops.

The 4-can packs will be priced two for £10 or one for £5.75.

Speaking ahead of the launch, which will include a nationwide marketing campaign, McGregor said: “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over”, in a thinly-veiled attack on the other popular Irish stout, Guinness.

“This launch comes as a culmination of 2 years of hard graft from myself and The Forged Irish Stout team and I’m immensely proud to finally be able to get it into the hands of the British public”, the UFC man added.

“We’ve huge plans for Forged in the UK, Ireland, the US and beyond and I can’t wait for you all to join us on the journey.”

In 2021, McGregor sold his majority stake in whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve to Proximo Spirits for $600 million.

The multinational drinks business, which owns Jose Cuervo and other alcohol brands, increased its stake in the company as the brand grew rapidly in prominence after getting the backing of the Dublin man.

The $600 million was split between the brand co-founders McGregor, his agent Audie Attar of Paradigm Sports Management and their partner Ken Austin, who said the sum includes the $250 million the team already earned in the brand’s first two years in business with Proximo.

Forged Irish Sout has been described as the smoothest, creamiest, and freshest stout that enthusiasts can experience.

The stout’s flavour profile is a result of a meticulously crafted blend of malts, including pale malt, crystal malt, Munich malt, black malt, roasted barley, and wheat.

The Guinness Guru, who regularly reviews pints of the black stuff, went to the pub to try out the stout in 2021.

“It’s alright, it tastes like Guinness but much more of a roasted flavour, but it’s decent,” the Guinness Guru said on TikTok.

“It’s creamy, there’s some ‘shtick’ on it as well, it’s not exactly my cup of tea but I’m just so used to drinking Guinness.

“I don’t know, it feels weird, I can’t give it a Guinness score.

“The likelihood to drink it again out of ten is 6.9 or 7.”
