U2 and Take That named as the first guests of TFI Friday

U2 and Take That have been announced as the first guests for the TFI Friday.

It might not be the Britpop line-up original TFI fans would expect but it's far from a shabby way to start.

Of course, returning host Chris Evans is chuffed with the booking; "It wouldn't be the first episode of TFI without one of the biggest bands in the world, if not the biggest.

"We're over the moon that we've got U2 on the show. They're coming in specially, flying straight from a show in Antwerp and straight back to Cologne, making the time just for us, and we certainly plan to make the most of it.‎"

After appearing on the original series with Evans, it's a format U2 are used to. Remember when they got to spray fans with bubbly and drink Guinness on the show on St Patrick's Day in 2000?

Slaves, actress Saoirse Ronan and comedian Steve Coogan have also been booked for the programme airing from a Central London studio on Friday.

Following the show's pilot featuring Blur, the series has been commissioned for 10 episodes, although that will then be Evans's lot as he has vowed to turning his focus to Top Gear.
