We seem spoiled for boxing films this year, with upcoming Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle Southpaw set to be closely followed by Creed, a spin-off from the legendary Rocky series.
Creed stars Michael B Jordan as Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s rival in the Oscar-winning 1976 film, and sees Sylvester Stallone reprise his most famous on-screen role.
British boxer Tony Bellew is also involved, in his first acting role, and scenes from the film were shot in Bellew’s home city of Liverpool.
The hard-hitting drama even features an homage to one of the original film’s most famous shots, with Jordan’s character donning a hoodie almost identical to the one worn by Rocky Balboa in his iconic training montage.
It is the second feature film from Ryan Coogler, who directed Jordan in the multiple award-winning Fruitvale Station, and is set for a November release.
