‘This is a heart break to Memphis and to the culture of hip hop’

Three 6 Mafia member ‘Gangsta Boo’ died on Sunday. She was 43.

Lola Mitchell was found dead at approximately 4pm FOX13 reported, saying they had confirmed the Memphis rapper’s death with three independent sources.

The cause of her death is still unknown at this time though no foul play is suspected.

TMZ suggested it was drug related.

The outlet said Mitchell was with her brother on Saturday at a local concert in Memphis, and that her sibling started to overdose and required hospitalisation. However, he ended up being ok.

TMZ said sources familiar with Mitchell’s death scene insisted narcotics were found on her person and that a fentanyl-laced substance is believed to be at play.

The hip hop star’s passing appeared to be confirmed by her former labelmate DJ Paul – who posted a photo of her on Instagram seemingly as a tribute.

Several prominent artists commented with messages of condolences.

Mitchell’s career officially started in the ’90s, when she linked up with Paul, Juicy J and other founding members of the rap group – which included the likes of Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca and more.

In addition to her own solo albums that she was making at the time, Mitchell featured on Three 6 Mafia’s first 5 studio albums, including their debut record in ’95’s “Mystic Stylez” … as well as other notable projects like ‘Chapter 1,’ ‘When the Smoke Clears’ and even the ‘Choices’ album.

Mitchell left Three 6 Mafia in the early 200s, but continued with solo projects and featured with countless other rappers including Gucci Mane, Lil Jon, OutKast, E-40, T.I., The Game and more.

She also collaborated with Killer Mike and El-P in their hip hop duo Run The Jewels.
