Heath Ledger's Joker was always going to be the toughest of acts to follow.
His performance in Christopher Nolan's Batman incarnation The Dark Knight was frighteningly good.
So we were intrigued to see how Jared Leto handles the role in the up-coming Suicide Squad film.
There has been a
slow drip of images of the warped character appearing on social media over the past few months...but the first teaser trailer for the new film is here.
And Leto's joker looks pretty brutal.
The trailer is dark and gritty and slowly reveals the characters as the "worst of the worst", underscored by some haunting music.
Obviously they save the worst until last when we finally get to see The Joker, with palid skin, green hair, tattoos and metal teeth.
Then we get the line: "Oh, I'm not gonna kill you...I'm just gonna hurt you... really, really bad."
Really sinister. It's out in August (next year).
