The first official details for Stranger Things season 3 have been revealed

And so the excitement begins...

Back to the Future, good old-fashioned teen romance and lots more Steve…

A reminder, if it was ever in any doubt at all, that Stranger Things is indeed returning for a third season in the near future.

Things have been relatively quiet on the Hawkins front of late, until last weekend when the Los Angeles PaleyFest played host to a panel with the cast and creatives of the Netflix original.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, season three of the wildly popular nostalgia-fest will be set in the summer of 1985, marking one year on since the events of season two.

When things kick off, Mike and Eleven are making a go of it, as are Lucas and second season newcomer ‘Mad’ Max.

Elsewhere, iconic ’80s classic Back to the Future will be a reference point in the new season, which officially begins production before March is out.

Meanwhile, having become something of an Internet meme thanks in part to showcasing a more sensitive, fatherly side towards Dustin, the power and glory that is Steve Harrington will enjoy a greater role in proceedings.

“We’ll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington in season three,” said executive producer Shawn Levy.

“I’ll just say we won’t be abandoning the Dad Steve magic. I don’t want to say much more, but I literally feel that we were walking along and we stumbled onto a gold mine with Dad Steve,” he added.

So, no word on what kind of otherworldly menace will be terrorising the kids, but we probably haven’t heard the last from what resides in the Upside Down just yet.

Let’s just hope we don’t check in with Eleven’s ‘sister’ and her ragtag group of X-Men knockoffs any time soon, eh?
