She opened up about some of the “very difficult” aspects of the show

Laura Whitmore has announced she has quit as the host of Love Island – admitting she found some aspects of the show “very difficult”.

The presenter, 37, took to social media on Monday evening to reveal the news.

Posting on Instagram, she wrote: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.”

“I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands.”

The presenter, who is married to Love Island’s narrator Iain Stirling, explained how she was only planning to fill in for the late Caroline Flack for one series, but this escalated into three series.

“I hope I did you proud Caroline,” Whitmore added.

Vicky Pattinson, Faye Winter and Maura Higgins were amongst multiple reality TV stars who rushed to show their appreciation for the presenter.

“She really would be proud!”, ex-Love Island contestant Faye Winter wrote, “You done incredibly.”

In a statement, ITV told The Sun: “Laura has been a fantastic host across the last three series of the show.

“We are so grateful for everything she has brought to the programme but understand and respect her decision, and we look forward to working with her on upcoming ITV projects.”
