Stacey Solomon says she doesn’t ‘get the point of the Royal Family’

Solomon has been trending on social media after the comments

Former X-Factor contestant Stacey Solomon has received praise for her thoughts she shared about the Royal Family on ITV’s Loose Women. The singer, celebrity and mum said simply: “I don’t get the point of the Royal Family.”

She pointed out that some people are “obsessed with these humans that are exactly the same [as us]” and that to her and other members on the panel, they have become “celebrities” and “that’s all they are”.

When other panel members wanted to qualify that they “love the Queen” and she is “brilliant”, Solomon quickly questioned, “but for what?” Though her peers stated that the monarch has always worked hard and done her duty for to the country, Solomon said “but I would work hard if the whole country paid for me to have 12 houses”.

She added: “It’s freezing cold outside and people are homeless and these people have houses to spare”, before reiterating the national frustration over not being able to “see the purpose of all of that money going to this entire family”.

We’ve seen how people can get pretty touchy regarding the Royals in the past weeks and months but, thankfully, her speech was met with fairly resounding applause by the studio and this has carried over on to social media. We particularly enjoyed this one – the times are a changing, eh?

While there are, obviously, going to be people that defend the Royals and take issue with their detractors, like many of the commenters, we’re glad to see more people are starting to wake up and realise just because an institution has been around for centuries, doesn’t mean it still should be.
