We've all been living a lie
The theme tune to hit 90s and 00s sitcom Friends is an instantly recognisable anthem that brings back feelings of warmth, nostalgia, and happiness.
Everyone knows the lyrics, don't they? They're clear, relatable, and there is no ambiguity about what The Rembrandts are saying at any point, right? Wrong. As one unlucky contestant on Saturday Night Takeaway discovered tonight, there is one line we've all been getting wrong for years.
During the sing-along section of the Saturday Night Takeaway season finale tonight, one poor soul, confident that she would breeze the round with flying colours, failed to finish off one of the song's most famous lines.
Tasked with finishing the line "I'll be there for you...." the contestant sang what we all would have: "when the rain starts to fall."
It came as a shock to her and several thousand viewers at home to discover that the actual lyric is "when the rain starts to pour."
When you think about it, it makes sense, given that the following line ends with "like I've been there before", and thus rhymes better with 'pour' than 'fall', but it still blew plenty of viewers' minds.
