He embraced his dare-devil side
Robert De Niro celebrated his 81st birthday on Saturday and showed no signs of ‘taking it easy’ as he was pictured leaping from the side of his yacht.
The Godfather actor celebrated his special day with his daughter, Drena De Niro by his side.
De Niro adopted Drena during his marriage to Diahnne Abbott and she was the one who captured the moment as the two-time Oscar winner leapt off the boat wearing red and blue striped bathers.
She captioned the post: “Happy 81st Bday to my Dad and #1 ride or die… Love you with all my ♥️♥️♥️ #BobbyD forever.”
Drena posted a carousel of images, some of which were throwbacks including one of the famed actor with her late son Leandro who died last year.
The 19-year-old died of an accidental overdose which De Niro said had left him ‘deeply distressed’.
At the time, he told People: “It’s just a shock. [I] never thought it would happen. And I just then started thinking about all the things I could have, should have done maybe with him.
“I don’t know if that would’ve made a difference. And so that’s always playing through my mind. It shouldn’t have happened.”
Meanwhile, just months before De Niro celebrated his 81st birthday, his youngets child, Gia, celebrated her first birthday.
Her birthday was a much quieter and relaxed affair than De Niro’s as he revealed to Entertainment Tonight: “She had a little cake, it was very nice, sweet.”
De Niro has seven children, Drena, 56, Raphael, 47, twins Julian and Aaron, 28, Elliot, 26, Helen Grace, 12 and Gia aged one.
Meanwhile, De Niro is still very active as an actor with his latest two films just entering post-production.
Alto Knights is scheduled for release in March of next year while Tin Soldier, which De Niro filmed back in 2022 is yet to set a release date.
