‘A whole new round is coming’
It’s official, Squid Game season two is coming following an official announcement by Netflix and creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk.
While we already knew a second series was coming – with the writer, director and executive producer revealing that overwhelming fan reaction left him with “no choice“, we now have full confirmation thanks to a Red Light-Green Light teaser with the number two in the doll’s eye – the popular South Korean children’s game which is now synonymous with the global phenomenon.

Adding a note from the creator himself, thanking the fans for making this follow-up almost inevitable, Hwang wrote. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.
“As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”
He went on to add that fans can expect the return of familiar characters as well as a new one, Young-hee (the big creep doll)’s boyfriend, Cheol-su, before inviting the audience to “join us once more for a whole new round.”
Hwang is also said to be working on another project that he promises will be even “more violent” than Squid Game – we can only hope this second series falls somewhere in the middle, at least, when it comes to the graphic nature we’ve come to expect.
While no release date has yet been set, it’s safe to say Squid Game season two won’t take as long to get made as the first did, having been rejected by multiple studios for being “too grotesque”.
