Martin Lewis has been praised for his powerful National Television Awards speech tonight as he took a cheeky and savage dig  at the Prime Minister .

The star-studded ceremony finally returned tonight after it was rescheduled following the Queen’s death in September.

The money expert was honoured best TV expert tonight, going up against the likes of David Attenborough and Clarkson’s Farm’s Kaleb Cooper.

Appearing on stage, Martin expressed his shock that he had won, going on to refer to how much of a difficult time it has been due to the cost of living crisis.

Taking dig at the government and Liz Truss, he added: “We need somebody to get a grip on the economy and make things a little better. But I shall leave that for my show next Tuesday. Tonight this nerd is going to party!”

Fans flocked to Twitter to praise Martin, with one writing: ” Martin Lewis SO deserved it. #NTAs #NTAs2022.”

While another commented: “WELL SAID MARTIN #NTAs2022.”

A third wrote: “I’m actually pleased Martin Lewis won #NTAs2022.”

This comes as This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, took to the National Televsion Awards stage to pick up the award for Best Daytime show for ITV. However, the were faced with boos.

The crowd around them audibly booed as they were named the winners.

Phil made a touching plea to fans at home as he said: “Please don’t think we ever get complacent. And please don’t think we ever take this for granted.”

The TV presenter added: “This means so much to us every year, especially this year. We have the most amazing team, I have the best friend and we have the best boss.”

Addressing the general public, Holly said: “Thank you so much. This means everything because it is voted by you and I think This Morning has a very special relationship with you. You make our show for us, you really do.”

Despite the positivity from the presenters, fans on Twitter couldn’t help but notice the boos. Scott Bryan, a TV critic and broadcaster, tweeted: “A source at the ceremony says that there were some boos in the room when This Morning won an #NTAs, but boos stopped during the speech.”
