‘Queensgate’ is still on everyone’s minds

This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, took to the National Televsion Awards stage to pick up the award for Best Daytime show for ITV.

Phil put his head in his hands and held back tears.

The crowd around them audibly booed as they were named the winners.

He made a touching plea to fans at home as he said: “Please don’t think we ever get complacent. And please don’t think we ever take this for granted.”

The TV presenter added: “This means so much to us every year, especially this year. We have the most amazing team, I have the best friend and we have the best boss.”

Addressing the general public, Holly said: “Thank you so much. This means everything because it is voted by you and I think This Morning has a very special relationship with you. You make our show for us, you really do.”

Despite the positivity from the presenters, fans on Twitter couldn’t help but notice the boos. Scott Bryan, a TV critic and broadcaster, tweeted: “A source at the ceremony says that there were some boos in the room when This Morning won an #NTAs, but boos stopped during the speech.”

Twitter users speculated that the broadcaster possibly used a ‘cheering track’

One wrote: “95% sure #ITV just drowned out the audible boos This Morning received with a false cheering track, which has to be the most tragic thing I’ve witnessed. #NTA #NTAAwards.”

Another user said: “Oh noooo the boos! Holly and Phillip look like they want the ground to swallow them up.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “Did I just hear boos for Holly and Phil? Well done to This Morning for the win though #NTA”.

This comes after Phillip’s £1million We Buy Any Car deal has come to an end after five years, it has been confirmed.

After We Buy Any Car removed the This Morning presenter’s images from their social media profile this week, some speculated that it might have something to do with ‘Queuegate’.

Phil and his co-presenter, Holly, were accused of skipping the line to see the late Queen’s funeral ahead of her September 19 funeral. The controversy led to a petition urging ITV bosses to sack the pair from the daytime show and as of Saturday morning it has clocked up over 77,000 signatures

We Buy Any Car has since confirmed Phil’s contract has come to an end, concluding a five-year deal. The company also made clear it had nothing to do with recent events.
