Martin Brundle grid walk interview with machine gun kelly

Another classic Martin Brundle moment

It’s safe to say that Formula 1 has been pretty predictable this season, with Max Verstappen dominating in a way the sport has never seen. Something that has remained unpredictable on race day though is Martin Brundle’s grid walk.

In the moments leading up to the start of a grand prix, the grid is awash with A-list celebrities from across sport and entertainment who have been invited by to attend the race.

At the same time, former F1 driver and Sky Sports commentator Brundle carries out his grid walk, looking to grab a word with drivers and team principles along with any celebs he bumps into – even if he has no idea who they are.

This weekend at the Brazil Grand Prix, the former F1 driver decided to try and have a quick word with Machine Gun Kelly.

And the conversation went about as awkwardly as you might expect, providing fans with another classic example of Brundle not taking any nonsense from celebs.

He started off by trying to ask MGK to tell us about his career, before the star finally responded: “Oh, my career. I don’t think about my career, I don’t think about it.”

Brundle responded: “Well good luck with it whatever you do.”

The broadcaster then asked him for his thoughts on F1 and the upcoming race, to which the he responded: “I think your business is great. It’s loud, your life is on the line and that’s exciting.

“I was in a studio the other week and Lewis Hamilton was in the other studio. That was nice, yeah.”

The American flipped the question and asked Brundle for his thoughts on the music industry, with the Brit praising the “synergy between the music business and the motor racing business.”

This was when things started to get a bit weird as MGK asked Brundle for his “best air guitar.”

The F1 expert declined but said he had “learned the piano once,” prompting Kelly to suggest they do an “an air piano and air guitar collaboration right now.”

At this point, as Kelly strummed away on his own, Brundle said he “probably needs to get on” and continue with his live broadcast, much to disappointment of the music star who gave a thumbs down to the camera and stormed off.

In classic style, Brundle told viewers at home: “Something tells me I won’t be on his Christmas list.”

Reacting to the chat on X, one fan wrote: “This has got to be Martin’s best grid walk interview ever.”

Another labelled it “the most awkward interview eveeeerrrrr.”

And a third said: “The ‘good luck with it whatever you do ‘ comment is peak Brundle!”

This isn’t the first awkward encounter Brundle has had with a celeb on the grid this season.

Back in July, he delivered a moment of brilliant savagery at the British GP when model Cara Delevingne refused to chat to him on the grid.

Never change Martin.
