He had promised to by every team employee a pint

Jeremy Clarkson showed he is a man of his word by buying 1,000 beers for every member of an Formula 1 team after a promise he made on Twitter.

During the Monaco Grand Prix last month, Clarkson had tweeted that he would buy everyone at the Alpine F1 team a pint if they got a podium finish in the race.

“Come on @AlpineF1Team I’ll buy you all a pint if you get a podium here,” the 63-year-old tweeted.

At the time, driver Esteban Ocon was in third and sure enough he and the team held on to that position to earn a hugely impressive third-place in the blue riband event, behind Fernando Alonso in second and Max Verstappen in first.

So, the Grand Tour host had a promise to keep, and on Monday he did just that.

Clarkson, who lives relatively close to Alpine’s base in Oxford turned up in his tractor alongside his Clarkson’s Farm right-hand man Kaleb Cooper to deliver beer to every Alpine member of staff.

Posting a clip of Clarkson arriving, the BWT Alpine F1 Team tweeted: “Some say he wouldn’t deliver on his Tweet to buy 1,000 beers.

“And that he wouldn’t turn up on his tractor. All we know is, he’s called @JeremyClarkson!”

When Clarkson rocked up, he was handed the microphone and said: “I said I’d buy you all a beer and I’ve brought you all a beer.

“Thank you very much for having us here today, delighted to be giving you this beer because it was a hell of a race, a hell of a result, great fun to watch sitting at home.

“But the person you most want to meet I’m sure is Kaleb, who actually does grow the spring barley just up the road and he is actually here in the back of a chauffeur-driven Bentley.”

After handing out the beers to the team employees, Clarkson got a tour of the team’s factory.

And, like any true Chelsea fan, he couldn’t resist making a joke at Spurs’ expense when he set eyes on a couple of empty trophy cabinets.

He joked: “Tottenham Hotspur’s in the 21st century, and there’s one from the 20th century.”

Some labelled Clarkson a “legend” for honouring the bet, with one person writing: “Good Guy makes good on bet. Also, it’s amazing how many people it takes to make a Formula 1 team!”

Another said: “This dude is legend…and on the farm show, Caleb is legit. We need more Jeremy!”

And a third suggested the trip to Alpine should be on the next series of Clarkson’s Farm.
