JOE’s weekly entertainment wipe…

It's a dirty business...

Lia Nicholls

Welcome to JOE’s weekly wipe on the world of entertainment, where we bring you everything you need to know, well not really but…

From Tom Jones’ awkward comments on Jimmy Savile, to a Star Wars klaxon to Piers Morgan being a bell, as well as Ronnie Pickering and Rihanna, here’s the first instalment.

Music whisper

Our boots might still be muddy from Glastonbury but that doesn’t stop the rumour mill from churning. Who cares if the festival is still nine months away, discussing who you may encounter off your chops down Rabbit Hole helps get us through winter.

This week, music bods are almost definitely, maybe certain it will be Coldplay headlining, taking their Pyramid Stage tally to four. But Glastonbury goers know it’s not just about the main stage acts anyway…unless Prince threatens to throw his raspberry beret into the ring like he did last year, the flirt…

Did they really say that?

Sir Tom Jones has been everywhere lately, scorned and pissed off with the BBC, he’s gone on a rampage around the media, putting his foot in it wherever he goes.

The singer sat down with The Sunday Times magazine for an ‘honest’ chat, where he failed to talk about his reputation of philandering and instead said his wife Lynda ‘has lost her spark’ after suffering with depression.

You can’t help wondering if ‘losing her spark’ might have something to do with who she’s been married to for the past 55 years.

That was last week, and this week he did another interview. This time Jones left everyone feeling even more awkward because of his comments about Jimmy Savile who, he says, ‘was a good man’ who helped launch his career.

“To me, Jimmy Savile was a good man. But who knows?” No Tom, I think we all know.

Did they really say that II?

Lamar Odom is currently fighting for his life in intensive care after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel from an alleged drug overdose. While his friends and family have taken vigil at the former athlete’s bedside, Piers Morgan served up his opinion.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, he opens: “There can’t be many more pitiful, humiliating ways to potentially end your life than face down in an infamous Nevada brothel, vomiting uncontrollably from the overdose of herbal Viagra you took to keep up with myriad prostitutes during a 4-day binge.

“As I write, Lamar Odom is clinging on. He’s in a coma, distraught family and friends at his bedside.

“But his dignity and reputation are already dead, shredded at the altar of reality television.”

Well done Piers, you’ve done Katie Hopkins proud.

F*ck no!

Ronnie Pickering, the ‘DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? RONNIE PICKERING’ road rage dickhead caught on camera threatening a motorcyclist with a ‘knuckle sandwich’ is doing a guest appearance at The Kasbah nightclub in Coventry on October 23.

A lot of people failed to see the entertainment value in booking the angry, sweary man and complained to the club, to which they replied on their Facebook page:

“In response to the people saying Ronnie Pickering is a ‘very silly’ and ‘uncool’ booking well we wholeheartedly agree!

“Fridays are a hands in the air, singalong, end of the week party night and the emphasis is purely on fun and cheese.

“The people we book reflect that and don’t take themselves too seriously either as Chuckle Brothers showed last week and S Club the week before.”

Before adding “chill out FFS”.

F*ck yes!

With their first material since 2009’s Heligoland, Massive Attack have announced they’re coming back with new music and a 22-date tour in 2016, supported by the excellent Young Fathers.

Wise words…

After suffering an abusive relationship with Chris Brown, Rihanna has learned a lot about love, boundaries and respect. An ordeal like that means she isn’t going to settle down with just anyone. And she’s Rihanna ffs.

In an engaging interview with T Magazine, she revealed what the qualities required for her next partner, someone “that’ll keep me intrigued” she says.

“They don’t have to have a single degree, but they should speak other languages or know things about other parts of the world or history or certain artists or musicians. I like to be taught.”

As well as a man who isn’t uncomfortable by her power and act like a d*ck because of her power.

The best album released this week…

…is ‘As If’ by !!! (chk chk chk), the sixth studio album from the dance-pink group from California. We recommend you play it loud and start to move. It cheered me up on the saddest of days.

Set your alarm for…

…The new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer which is released on Monday, October 19, along with the first batch of pre-order movie tickets for December. If you get through, be a doll and pick me up a ticket.

Going to the flicks this weekend

Then watch The Program. If you once admired or were fond of Lance Armstrong, you won’t be after this.

Until next week, Livestrong!
