The plan would be that Corden would only make occasional appearances on the spinoff, much like fellow late night host Jimmy Fallon does in his show Lip Sync Battle.
In the same interview, Corden was asked if he would ever try to get Donald Trump on board. "I don't believe he sings," Corden said. "But we've asked him to be a guest on the main show without success several times.
"It's a difficult show for politicians because we bring all the guests out at the same time - so for them, it's a much less controllable atmosphere."
