HBO is ‘aggressively monitoring’ the situation

HBO has pointed the finger at its partner after the much-anticipated finale of ‘House of the Dragon’ was leaked online on Friday.

The tenth and final episode of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel is due to air on Sunday night, but has somehow managed to emerge online, giving fans who just can’t wait any longer the chance to find out what happens to the Targaryens, Hightowers and Velaryon.

HBO has since released a statement saying that they are “aggressively monitoring” the situation and are actively taking down copies of the finale from websites – and the company is pretty clear who they think is to blame for the leak.

A spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter: “It appears to have originated from a distribution partner in the EMEA region.

“HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet.

“We’re disappointed that this unlawful action has disrupted the viewing experience for loyal fans of the show, who will get to see a pristine version of the episode when it premieres Sunday on HBO and HBO Max, where it will stream exclusively in 4K.”

This isn’t the first time that the world of Game of Thrones has been hit by a leaking scandal.

Back in 2017, an episode from the seventh season of Game of Thrones similarly made its way to illegal torrent sites ahead of the scheduled air date. At the time, HBO attributed the leak to the episode having been accidentally posted by a third-party vendor.
