Goodfellas cast reunite for 25th anniversary

Nooruddean Choudry

It’s one of the finest gangster movies of all-time. Goodfellas is 25 years old and members of the original cast were reunited to mark the anniversary…

Speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival, Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Paul Sorvino and Lorraine Bracco marvelled at the enduring popularity of the 1990 classic.

“You’re learning about a lifestyle that thank God 99% of us don’t know about,” said Liotta, attempting to explain the film’s iconic standing.

Paul Sorvino, who played feared caporegime Paul Vario, admitted that he was initially shocked by the level of violence in the script and almost left the production.

“I never played anything like that – that kind of a lethal character. Three days before we were about to shoot, I called my manager and said ‘Get me out!'” explained Sorvino.

The cast also revealed that the film’s most famous scene – Joe Pesci’s ‘Funny how?‘ rage – was largely ad-libbed.
