It also makes them the first artists to ever headline the festival four times, with their 2011 set being voted 'Top Glastonbury Moment' by BBC Radio listeners.
It comes after Chris Martin and Co. played the half time show at Super Bowl 50 with Beyonce and Bruno Mars.
Other rumoured names to headline the festival are Muse and Adele, with bookies also tipping the likes of Foo Fighters, Oasis, Daft Punk and Radiohead as favourite to appear.
Glastonbury 2016 will take place at Worthy Farm over the week of June 22-26.
