Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham absolutely slates Nigel Farage

Paul Moore

No holding back.

In Game of Thrones, Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) is a character that’s not afraid to defy authority or challenge leaders, and in the case of Liam Cunningham’s own personal life, life has imitated art yet again.

As many of you will know, the Irish actor is a staunch defender of refugee rights and various humanitarian causes.

In fact, he has previously visited and worked in various International Rescue Committee camps in Greece with his Game of Thrones co-stars Lena Headey and Maisie Williams.

After hearing about the fate of Afghan and Syrian fathers, Cunningham (in the clip below) said: “This is not an earthquake, this is not a tidal wave. This is a man-made crisis: 57,000 stranded in Greece. Refugee camps in Europe? Is this truly the standard EU leaders want to set as the way to respond to the global refugee crisis?”

‘The Onion Knight’ has now turned his attention to the Nigel Farage during his recent speech at Strasbourg. The former Ukip leader was speaking this afternoon and he was jeered in the European Parliament after accusing the EU of behaving like the mafia.

“You’re behaving like the mafia – you think we’re a hostage. We’re free to go!” said Farage.

After hearing these remarks, Manfred Weber, a German member of the Christian Social Union, used his closing statement to say “Nigel Farage has told us in recent years how great it is that the UK is leaving the EU. So perhaps you could lead by example and no longer bother us in the debate in the European Parliament?”

Here’s Farage’s speech in full.

It’s clear that Farage’s speech has riled the Game of Thrones star because Cunningham wasn’t exactly shy about venting his frustrations via Twitter.
