Spider-Verse Finale Trailer Leaks Online as Producer Christopher Miller Hits Out

Around four and a half minutes of footage from Spider-Verse finale Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has leaked online, and one of the film’s makers is not happy about it. Co-writer and producer Christopher Miller criticised the leak on X on Friday, some 10 months before the film is due in cinemas.

What the leaked Spider-Verse footage shows

The material appears to pair the film’s opening scene with a montage of traditional trailer clips, The Hollywood Reporter reported. It picks up on the cliffhanger that closed Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales tied up by his Earth-42 counterpart and Uncle Aaron. Its origin is unclear, though Sony screened a look at the film for exhibitors at CinemaCon in April. Sony Pictures had no immediate comment.

Not a fan of leaks of unfinished, not fully rendered footage.

It is the latest leak to hit a major release. Footage from The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day appeared on X after their theatrical runs began, Variety noted, while the No Way Home trailer leaked ahead of its official debut in 2021.

Sony’s live-action Spider-Man has fared rather better. Brand New Day has taken $1.8bn worldwide to date, setting a Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office record, and Joe has broken down what its credits scene sets up. On the animated side, Across the Spider-Verse took more than $690m in 2023, while 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse won the Oscar for best animated feature. Beyond the Spider-Verse, from Phil Lord and Miller, is due in June 2027.
