Possession remake starring Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner gets release date

The cult classic is back

Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley lead the reimagining of the 1981 supernatural cult classic, with Smile director Parker Finn writing and directing.

Andrzej Żuławski’s original, starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, followed a spy and his wife, who begins exhibiting disturbing behaviour after asking for a divorce.

A flop on release, it went on to develop a devoted cult following, and sparked a bidding war when The Hollywood Reporter revealed in 2024 that Finn and producer Robert Pattinson were teaming up on a new version.

Possession remake faces dragon-sized competition

Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Paul Dano round out the cast.

Finn arrives with serious horror pedigree: his debut Smile grossed $217million worldwide on a $17million budget, spawning a 2024 sequel.

There is one catch and it's that Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 opens the very same day.

Horror fans have plenty to chew on in the meantime, with American Horror Story season 13 also on the way.

Qualley next stars in Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars later this month, while Turner is currently in cinemas with romantic comedy One Night Only.
