Aside from the incredibly detailed sets, fiendish games and sense of adventure, the real joy from watching The Crystal Maze was seeing contestants failing miserably at their tasks.
Didn't we all get a sadistic pleasure from watching those unfortunate people slipping, falling, becoming incredibly frustrated or failing to complete their task in the allocated time?
