EastEnders fans are going mad over New Year’s Day shooting

New year, same old drama...

New year, same old drama.

If there’s one thing that keeps us watching EastEnders, it’s the convoluted storylines, Phil Mitchell, and the constant reassurance that at least once a year somebody is going to shout: “Get out of my pub!”

Oh, and the fact that Danny Dyer’s in the show.

Yeah, that’s a pretty big reason as to why we stick around, to be honest.

Imagine our horror, our disgust, our dismay then when last night, Dyer’s character, Mick Carter, appeared to be gunned down right in front of our terrified eyes.

Pure tragedy.

The incident occurred on last night’s New Year’s Day episode when Aiden Maguire’s heist turned out to go… well, not so well.

Involved in the heist himself, Mick, Phil, and a few others ran around the place for a bit pointing fake guns before they got into a spot of bother.

Mick found himself face-to-face with somebody he apparently recognised in the back of the van they were going after.

“It’s you,” he said, as the pair pointed their guns at one another, before a shot was fired and Mick’s wife, Linda, screamed out in the background.

Although it was not revealed exactly who had gotten shot – if anyone actually did – fans of Mick were quick to express their mourning and fear on Twitter.

Producers are likely to be shaking in their boots this very minute at the prospect of losing so many loyal fans.

We can only hope and pray that they didn’t decide to kill Mick off.

For the good of popular soaps… and mankind.
