Crazy new copyright law makes iTunes practically illegal in the UK

We're not sh*tting you...

Ben Kenyon

If this sounds like a wind-up, we hate to break it to you – but it ain’t.

New copyright laws in the UK have pretty much made using iTunes illegal. Yup, for real.

The High Court has ruled that making copies of CDs or backing up your music is against the law.

So all those hours you spent studiously copying your music collection onto a computer are now in breach of copyright law.

And before you ask, sticking it on an external hard drive or cloud storage without a license granted by the rightsholder is also an infringement.

For the handful of people that might still be using cassettes to make mix tapes off the radio (Uncle Ron, you might want to read this), we’re pretty sure that means you too.

Before everyone loses their sh*t, the Government is considering the implications of the court rulings and the available options.
